As the Ladies Captain of Pottergate Golf Club, may I offer you a warm welcome whether you’re a member, or a visitor.
I joined Pottergate in the summer of 2020 during the pandemic, and soon found that the Ladies Section is so warm and welcoming, and a real friendly bunch. Being new to a club can be quite daunting, however, I received phone calls and people introduced themselves to arrange a round on the golf course with me. I love the competitive side of the game, but also the fun and great company that keeps me coming back for more.
Our Ladies Section has both younger and more “golden age” ladies, and everyone mixes well, as we all have things to learn from each other. We have ladies who are beginners, through to more experienced seasoned golfers, and everything in between. The physical and mental health aspects of golf and our social gatherings are an important part, and I believe we out-do ourselves in that respect!
I joined the Ladies Committee in 2023 and shadowed the Competitions Organiser. I took over this role, and with as many fun comps that we could fit in around our monthly and trophy competitions, we have a very full and varied fixture list. We also have friendly matches with other local clubs, away days, mixed competitions, and England Golf qualifying competitions.
As Ladies Captain, I aim to keep traditions going, while building bridges for new ideas for our future. I am very open to listening to fresh ideas, or thoughts you may wish to share. The best clubs are the ones where everyone has a voice, and we can each play a part in making our golf experience a great one!
None of this would be possible, without the great support from Gail & Richard, our Ladies Committee, Club Captain John McGowan, Vice-Captain Ian Bavin, the Greens team, and Catering staff. Many thanks to all.
Here’s to a great year of golf and fine weather!
