Pottergate Pirates

Pottergate Pirates invite all club members to join our band of cut throats. The Pirates have friendly fixtures throughout the year. Playing one match each month.

MATCH REPORT - Pirates v Carholme (Home) Sat 14th September

What started out to be a mild and dewy morning turned out to be a warm and sunny day and one for which Pottergate would host the return match aganst Carholme. We were able to gain some points at their place but had lost to our hosts 4.5-1.5. This was the chance to gain some redemption.

Things looked promising after 9 with pretty much all teams all square or ahead.

We know our greens and our fairways well, and we were able to steer all teams to victory with a fantastic 6 – 0 result to finish.

Congratulations to each group for their wins and a hearty well done to the team as a whole. I would also like to specifically say well done to Faye who gained a win on her first ever game for the Pirates and with Kath Havenhand, romped in with a 4&3 win. Impressive teamwork!

As usual thank you to the club staff, the breakfast was great. Also a big thank you to the greenkeepers, the course was playing in outstanding condition.

Things are moving quickly, the next game is only two weeks away! in which we will be playing away ay Kirton Holme.

Don’t forget to put your names down. The players will be drawn nearer the time.

The Pottergate Pirates - who we are

We are a friendly bunch of Pottergate members who support the idea that golf is for everyone. We don’t think that playing matches should be preserved for those elite few chosen to represent the club in the LUGC league, and so we invite all members of all sections of the club to join us to play in our friendly fixtures against other clubs.

Matches will usually include a meal and is a great opportunity to make new friends and play new courses against other clubs. Win or lose…we put on a brave face and the aim of the game is to play some golf and enjoy ourselves. It’s a great way to relax, to integrate with the club, to become involved, or even to just gain some experience if you have greater ambitions! One thing’s for sure, you’re bound to be welcomed with open arms and have a great day with the Pirates.

Don’t be shy, give us a try! All you need is a club handicap. If you’re interested in playing please contact Captain Ian Hopin. He can be reached by leaving a message through the club, or simply put your name up on the game sheets in the clubhouse. Please don’t be disheartened if you don’t get picked for a game. We try to make sure all players get to play but of course there are only so many spaces per match.
