This was the first match for our juniors since re-entering the LUGC league. We hosted Thonock, a well experienced and low handicapped side. We won our first match 3&2, lost the second match, so it all came down to the pairing of Sam Cairns and Alex Woolfson. We were 1 up going down the last with one of the opposition driving the green and Alex finding his ball hanging on to the edge of the lake. Sam had driven down the middle of the fairway, we watched as Alex took off his shoes and socks and waded into the lake to take his stance, he managed to execute a great shot through to the bottom of the green. Sam took his second shot and left the ball at the top of the green with a very tricky downhill moving putt. The opposition took their shots and it was left to Sam to hold a fairly lengthy putt to halve the hole and win their match, which he did with a great putt!
So, Pottergate won the match overall 2 to 1 – well done to the team:
Will Batchelor, Poppy Mae-Warren, Sam Cairns, Alex Woolfson, Ben Cusson and Maxx Chapman (special mention as he had to play off a lot lower handicap on the day due to the league rules – he took it all in his stride!)
